Selling grip socks at your park? Check the label before you print the pack.

US and EU rules differ. A size sticker or QR code may leave out required details. Use this guide to check the artwork and the finished socks.

Start with the sales route

Where will guests get the socks? Make a separate record for each market and pack format.

Check Write down Why
Market US state or EU country Language and origin checks can differ.
Pack Single pair, multipack, or loose counter sale The guest must be able to find the required details.
Sock Fibers, origin, size, care, and responsible business The label must match the product you receive.

An EU supplier may use commercial documents instead of a label for some business-to-business shipments.

For guest-facing sales, check the consumer label. The European Commission FAQ explains the difference.

Check a US retail sock label

The FTC textile guide covers socks. For most retail pairs, check these three items:

  • Fiber content: Use the correct fiber names and percentages.
  • Country of origin: Name the country where the socks were made.
  • Business identity: Give a qualifying company name or its FTC Registered Identification Number (RN).

An RN can replace a qualifying company name. Your park does not automatically need its own RN. Ask the importer or brand owner which identity belongs on the label.

Most US socks have a special origin-placement rule. Put the English country name next to the size on the pack or label front.

Keep it visible after adding a price sticker. For a multipack, the package label can cover every pair if its information applies to all of them. Check the finished pack, not just the artwork file.

Care instructions have separate rules. The FTC care-label guide says hosiery generally does not need a permanent care label. Care information usually still belongs on the pack, a hang tag, or another clear place. Check your sock and grip materials first.

Check an EU retail sock label

EU textile rules focus on fiber content. Before you approve the label, check:

  • Are the fiber names and percentages correct, with the largest percentage first?
  • Can buyers read the fiber names in the required language of the destination country?
  • Is the label durable, easy to read, visible, and accessible before purchase?

The EU textile-label guide explains the basic rules. Do not treat a loose sticker inside a sealed bag as your default label.

Include the heel and toe when you calculate sock fiber content. You cannot leave out the whole heel or toe. Some reinforcement yarns may be excluded under the rules. Confirm the calculation before printing percentages.

The EU textile rule does not set a general care-label or origin-label requirement for these socks. Other laws may still apply.

Ask your EU importer to check product ID and business contact details under the General Product Safety Regulation guidance.

Turn the rules into one artwork approval sheet

Use one record per style, size group, package format, and destination. The size guide helps define guest-facing size groups; the label file should use the exact size wording printed on the pack.

Proof field Who should verify it Release check
Fiber names and percentages Manufacturer and buyer Match the approved construction and final production evidence.
Origin and responsible business Importer or brand owner Match the actual sourcing route and US label identity.
EU language and operator details EU importer or distributor Check each destination and applicable product-safety details.
Care text Product team Confirm against wash and grip-durability evidence.
Pack and SKU Park retail manager Check size, barcode, batch reference, and physical visibility.

Separate mandatory disclosures from useful operating fields. Barcodes, size colors, and park logos help staff sell quickly, but they do not replace fiber or origin information. Our packaging guide covers bulk, individual, and retail-ready formats.

Inspect the finished pair at the counter

  • Open one production carton from each market version and size group.
  • Compare the actual sock, packaging, and approved artwork side by side.
  • For US stock, locate origin beside size on the package or label front.
  • For EU stock, read the fiber names in the destination language and check label attachment.
  • Scan the barcode; confirm it retrieves the correct SKU and package quantity.
  • Save a photo and lot reference with the approved proof for future reorders.

Repeat this check when you change yarn, factory, grip application, package format, or destination country. A previous print proof does not verify a changed product.

FAQs about retail grip sock labels

Can a QR code replace the physical label?

Do not assume so. Use QR codes for extra product details, while keeping required consumer information accessible on the product, label, or package as the applicable rule requires.

Can one label serve US and EU parks?

Possibly, if it satisfies each destination’s requirements and remains readable. Check US sock-origin placement, EU fiber language, care text, and the applicable responsible-business information before approving a shared design.

Do free socks at admission avoid label checks?

No automatic exemption follows from a zero checkout price. Decide how the product reaches guests and have the responsible importer or local adviser review that route.
